St. Louis native Johnny Henry's debut 5-song EP/CD entitled "Now" has just been released and is available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, Zune.net, MySpace Music, and at Johnny's concerts! This collection of music exemplifies Johnny's personality and introduces Country music fans to his big voice and compelling story.
It's a story about perseverance and dedication, about drive and following one's passion, and about family and responsibility. You'll get to know Johnny through his brand new music and soon-to-be-released videos as a Nashville-based touring singer/songwriter and a rising star in the world of Country music.
But Johnny'’s road to success has not followed the traditional path that most aspiring Country stars take. Now sure, he has traveled the United States playing shows, has built a very large fan-base, and is always surrounded by women - but not the women you may be thinking of…. You see, Johnny is a stay-at-home Dad with four young daughters (yes, FOUR) and a devoted wife that works a steady full-time job.
Between the cooking and cleaning, the concerts and the chord charts... between homework and hand-holding, the harmonies and the highways…... Johnny balances the ride of being an up-and-coming Country artist with the daily joys and challenges of raising his girls. Johnny has worked hard to become a successful recording artist and touring singer/songwriter, living with his family in St. Louis, Missouri and commuting back and forth each month to his home base in Nashville, Tennessee. With strong family values and an overwhelming desire to succeed, Johnny is ready to share his gift of song and story with Country music fans everywhere.
Johnny recently finished recording his debut CD at the famed 16 Ton Studio in Nashville with producer Scotty Huff (who’ has worked with such mega-stars as Keith Urban, Jake Owen, and The Mavericks).
The result is 5 true-to-life songs... featuring tunes written by Robert Ellis Orrall (Taylor Swift/Love & Theft), Angelo Petraglia (Tim McGraw/Kings of Leon), Doug Powell (George Strait/ Montgomery Gentry), and Johnny himself. Some of Nashville's finest touring musicians were borrowed from their road duties with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Hank Williams Jr., John Fogerty, and Gary Allan (to name a few) to perform on Johnny's CD. Background vocals feature hit singer/songwriter Rachel Proctor and Jaime Hanna! Glenn Sweitzer of Fresh Films shot and directed Johnny’'s music video for the first single”. Glenn has worked closely with Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and many other big names.
In the works are a radio tour based around the "Old Fashioned Girl" theme, the music video for the first single “"Old Fashioned Girl"” is being premiered in early December, and some documentary short videos will all serve to introduce the world to... Johnny Henry.
The brand new 5-song CD is available!! You can listen to the songs here and then head over to the and download a copy for yourself!
All 5 tracks were recorded at 16 Ton Studios in Nashville, TN. My producer - good friend and amazing talent Scotty Huff, ran the recording process like clockwork, as well as coordinated the video and marketing facets of the project. Scotty has toured the world…, first with The Mavericks leading their horn section, then spending many years on tour alongside Keith Urban as his rhythm guitar/banjo player and background vocalist. You can see Scotty in many of the videos from Keith'’s first three CD’s, including “"Who Wouldn’t Want To Be Me"”, "‘’Where The Blacktop Ends"” and “"Somebody Like You"” among others...… and that’'s Scotty singing the high harmony on Keith'’s song “"Raining On Sunday"” from the album “ Golden Road” . Scotty is now focusing his many diverse talents producing other artists and projects allowing him to stay home off the road with his wonderful family.
Some stellar A-list touring musicians played on my CD… - Tim Horsley on drums (formerly with Keith Urban, now touring with Gary Allan),… Jason Mowery on fiddle and mandolin (formerly with Keith Urban, now touring with John Fogerty), Robbie Emerson on bass guitar (formerly with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, now touring with Jake Owen),… Steve King on keyboards, piano, organ (formerly with Keith Urban)…, Mike Daly on pedal steel and dobro (formerly with the Gibson/Miller Band, now touring with Hank Williams, Jr.),… J.D. Simo on guitar (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Goo Goo Dolls, Santana),… Jimmy Herman on fiddle (currently touring with Carrie Underwood)... and last but not least the background vocals feature none other than Country music royalty Jaime Hanna (who is now touring with Gary Allan)... and featuring Rachel Proctor, who is a super-talented singer/songwriter (she wrote Martina McBride'’s song "“Where Would You Be"”), and also has a successful recording career herself with her hit “"Me and Emily”".
We also filmed a music video for the 1st single "“Old Fashioned Girl"”. Directing the video, designing the CD artwork, doing the photo shoots and filming a documentary was the ultra-creative Glenn Sweitzer. He has done videos and designed artwork for many of Country’'s top acts, including Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, and more.
I hope you like the new music!!

It's a dreary, chilly, rainy night in St. Louis. The hour is late now and the house is quiet after yet another day of commotion. I'm partial to these sort of nights because they feel so cozy... but this particular night is special to me. My good friend Kelly Kodner has posted the first official blog and I got a glimpse of it just now.
It's funny how stories from your life swim around in your head and you connect to them because they are yours , but when you see them put down in black and white it seems to take all the little dots and connect them to paint a picture for people who don't know you personally. Kelly has the ability to write the stories in such a way that gives a reader the sense that they feel like they know you.
Kelly and I had a couple conversations and texted back and forth a few times, and out of those talks has come the first official blog... giving you some history and laying the groundwork for sharing this musical journey of mine with you. I'm more than excited to have her writing these blogs for you to read as she is someone who I feel is very in-tune with the human condition, and has the unique talent to be able to express that in writing.
I hope you enjoy reading the blogs... it's a great way for us all to keep up with happenings, both large and small, as they unfold. Eventually this page will go away, and when you click on the "Blog" tab above it'll take you directly to the official blog page. But for now, just as an introduction if you happen to be here, I thought I'd add a few words to you. Click on the link below to be directed to the blog site, and feel free to bookmark it. You can also sign in, subscribe, and follow the official blog using the links on that blog page. Be sure to say hi to Kelly while you're there!
Happy reading everyone! Johnny
11-2-2010 Welcome to the launch of the official website - and the first blog!
Hello friends!! I'm so glad that you stopped by my brand new website! Here on the blog page you'll find useful information, random thoughts, and personal notes. You'll also meet the lovely, beautiful and talented Kelly Kodner! She will be blogging here in this space regularly... keeping us all (me included!) up-to-date.
This year has been quite eventful... and I'm really excited to share with you what's been a labor of love this spring and summer - first recording the CD and filming the video for "Old Fashioned Girl", then getting on-stage for some cool shows, meeting some awesome people on the road - and preparing the groundwork to launch, promote and push the Johnny Henry brand out to the public. It has taken longer than we anticipated (doesn't it always?), but we're finally ready to roll!!
To all the friends, family, and fans that have come to shows, or found me online, or purchased a CD or shirt, or even simply mentioned my music to someone new and helped to spread the word... I sincerely THANK YOU!! To all of you that are new, I'm so happy you're here!

Now
It's a beautiful mystery how people find one another
How we can fall in love
And we don't know how it happens but, it does
All the pieces fit together and the world stops
Yeah nothin else matters, yeah nothin at all
I'd been wondering when something was coming...
It's here and now, yeah my empty spaces, girl you erased them all
Somehow
And the moment I met you I could've bet you'd be
All that I'd ever need
Yeah there's nothing I'm missing now
Yeah there's nothing I'm missing...
Now it's undeniable, and you made me believe the unbelievable
You gave me the only thing that I didn't know I didn't have
And now it's obvious that I had to have you
Now I do
I've been waiting, hoping, praying...
Yeah there's nothing I'm missing
Nothing I'm missing now

Old Fashioned Girl
She flies me away over that mountain
Way up higher than I've ever been
She takes me down, down to the water
In the river of love, yeah I'm jumpin' in
She's an old fashioned girl
A little bit like momma, a little bit like Minnie Pearl
In the middle of a new crazy world, she's an old fashioned girl
She rolls down the road, hand out the window
Not in a rush, just takin' her time
She ain't that worried when there ain't a lot of money
She knows we'll get by on just a dollar or a dime
Yeah the way she looks always makes me smile
And the way she loves never goes out of style
When my soul flies away over that mountain
I'll be lookin' around for my sweet angel
And the old fashioned dream I've been living in
In the middle of a new crazy world...
Written by Jason Mowery and Bruce Wallace
So Much
I don't love you just enough to say it
I don't love you just to keep you around
I don't need you just at night if I'm lonely
I don't need you just when the rain's coming down
I'll try to tell you but my words won't come close
No they don't do this justice, baby I love you
So much it hurts, when I can't feel your touch
So much I cry inside when we make love
So much of me is so entwined with you and I
Not a day goes by when I don't need that rush
So much
I want to leave you wanting more every morning
I want to run to your arms every night
I can't go nowhere without wishing you were with me
Cuz I can't be with you without wearing a smile
I'm lucky you love me the way that you do
But it can't hold a candle to how much I love you
Not a day goes by that I don't need that rush
Not a day goes by when I don't need your touch

NEXT
The Way It Is
Remember when they caught us skinny dippin in the sun
Sneakin in at 2 am, the night was still young and so were we
Yeah those crazy kids we used to be
Countin stars on the hood of my car, wasn't that the life
Dreamin 'bout mappin out a Carolina drive along the coast
Yeah that was a time I miss the most
When everything was so easy, why don't we do it again
Yeah let's just live like every kiss could be the last
The way we used to laugh too loud and drive through town too fast
Let's get back to you and me
Make the way it used to be the way it is
Between the drive and the overtime I don't see you near enough
Runnin round in circles now, barely catchin up to yesterday
Oh it's not supposed to be this way
I wanna find that old feelin, I need to know you again
Why can't we live like every kiss could be the last
With all the time in the world
And the world revolves around us
In love
Is that so crazy, can't we baby
Live like every kiss could be the last
Written by Scotty Huff and Doug Powell
Waiting On The Rain
I never knew the difference back then
Cause Daddy kept our circumstances between my Mom and him
I never felt his dread when the bills arrived
Cause he shouldered it, and shot me a big ol’' smile
He taught me that a dollar's there to spend
It won't do much good in heaven, it sure won't get you in
You should set aside a few for a rainy day
Just don'’t waste your time and worry life away
Stop waiting on the rain to fall, quit counting on the creek to rise
No matter what the weatherman says, there’'s still a dawn when sun don'’t shine
Just take each moment by the hand, and live it the best you can
There’'s no point in bracing for the pain, stop waiting on the rain
Was a week away from walking down the aisle
'Bout to tell my baby maybe we should wait on this awhile
My head was full of “what if's” and concern
Unsure of how the road ahead would turn
Once again my Daddy set me straight
He told me there’'s no way of knowing what will come our way
You should keep in mind the danger when you swim
But at some point boy, you gotta jump on in
There'’s no point in bracing for the pain, stop waiting on the rain
(stop waiting on the rain) Yeah or that’'s exactly what you'’ll get
(stop waiting on the rain) You'’ll just wind up getting wet
(stop waiting on the rain) Yeah there’'s a better way, a better day ahead
No matter what the weatherman says, there'’s still a dawn when sun don'’t shine
There'’s no point in bracing for the pain
Life is short, so just enjoy the day... Stop waiting on the rain

Come early and enjoy some of the Bluebird's fine food and get a good seat... the seating is general admission and limited. And please remember at the Bluebird... "Shhhhhhh"
The Bluebird Café is one of the world’s preeminent listening rooms and the venue has gained worldwide recognition as a songwriter'’s performance space where the “heroes behind the hits” perform their own songs; songs that have been recorded by chart-topping artists in all genres of music. Located in a small strip mall outside of downtown Nashville, the 100 seat venue is unassuming in appearance but some of the most significant songwriters and artists in history have performed on this stage. Our reputation as a listening room is based on the acoustic music that is our signature style. Our patrons repeatedly tell us that they are captivated by hearing songs performed by the creators themselves.
At The Bluebird, performers include up-and-coming songwriters along with those whose music is regularly on the charts, Country music as well as pop, rock and Contemporary Christian hits. Kathy Mattea was the first star to be identified with The Bluebird and is still a friend and a regular guest performer today. Garth Brooks played on both our Open Mic and Sunday Songwriter’s Shows before he was discovered –at The Bluebird –and signed to Capitol Records.
As a "Johnny Henry Fan", you already know the guy has a heart of gold. Because life has been good to Johnny, he always wants to do something to give back. Inspired by the amazing women in his life (especially his wife and four daughters) and named after the first single from Johnny's CD - "Now"... we're proud to announce The "Old Fashioned Girl" Tour . This tour was born out of Johnny's desire to teach his daughters that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything... be anyone you want to be... and really make a difference in the world.
Johnny wants to partner with community organizations by performing fundraising concerts. These can be organizations big or small. Within those organizations, Johnny will be searching for women with extraordinary stories... who have looked outside themselves to do something above and beyond for the greater good... and who at the end of the day are real down-to-earth "Old Fashioned Girls" at heart.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Johnny's fans have big hearts as well so we're asking you to nominate your favorite organization and/or “Old Fashioned Girl”.
